The Journees 2007 "Systemes de reference spatio-temporels", with the sub-title "The Celestial Reference Frame for the Future", will be held on 17-19 September 2007 (Monday to Wednesday), at Paris Observatory (on its Meudon site), France.

The scientific program will be composed of the following sessions:

For registration and presentation proposal, please fill in the online registration form. Please register before 15 August 2007 in order to facilitate the local organization and note that the deadline for presentation proposals has been extended to 18 July 2007.

An abstract corresponding to each presentation proposal must be submitted by 18 July 2007 with using the on-line abstract submission form. The SOC will decide about the acceptance of contributions and will inform the authors on the decision by 20 August 2007 with making available the final programme.

"Etude du cycle sismique du Vanuatu par GPS"

Résumé :
Les processus de subduction sont souvent contrôlés par des irrégularités de la plaque subductée. Ces structures peuvent être responsables du blocage de la subduction et contrôler la déformation de l'arc. La caractérisation de l'accumulation de la déformation le long de l'arc est donc essentielle à l'amélioration de la compréhension du cycle sismique dans ce type de zone où des séismes de forte magnitude sont initiés. La zone de subduction du Vanuatu (Sud-Ouest Pacifique) présente une importante variation de la vitesse de convergence au niveau de la fosse : 12 à 17 cm/an à 1,5cm/an au front de la zone de collision de la Ride d'Entrecasteaux. Ces collisions entraînent des mouvements verticaux importants de plusieurs mm/an et de séismes récurrents (Ambrym, 1999, Mw = 7.5; Santo, 2000, Mw = 6.9).
Un réseau dense de stations GPS a été mis en place et réoccupé depuis 1990 par l'équipe IRD. Dans ce travail de thèse, nous avons retraité et analysé les données GPS depuis 1992 et acquis de nouvelles données de 2003 à 2006. Nous avons adopté une stratégie de traitement des données GPS utilisée pour la réalisation des systèmes de référence afin d'estimer un champ de vitesse 3D cohérent. Ces longues séries temporelles nous permettent d'isoler les déplacements co-sismiques et de quantifier les vitesses inter-sismiques sur l'ensemble de l'arc.
Nous discutons des paramètres des plans de faille sur lesquels se sont initiés les séismes ainsi que des paramètres des zones d'accumulation de la déformation inter-sismique.

High-resolution retrievals of the recent changes in Earth’s gravity field using GRACE, and longer records of changes in lower-order components from satellite laser ranging data can offer unique insights into a wide range Earth system processes encompassing the dynamics of the atmosphere, ocean, land water (hydrology), land ice, and the mantle. We will utilize these space geodetic data sets along with complementary observations and model results of the Earth’s various subsystems to study the physical processes that govern their dynamics over a wide range of time scales. Our interests are interdisciplinary, crosscutting into several related areas. In particular, we plan to study high-latitude areas where water/ice mass fluxes are rapidly changing such as Alaska, Canada and Russia. Comparisons with models will be particularly valuable in assessing the climatic implications of the observed geodetic and gravitational variations.

Dear colleagues As announced in previous circular (slrmail N° 153, februar16th 2007), the next Fall ILRS Workshop will be held on Tuesday 25th – Friday 28th September 2007 and will be located on the French Riviera at Grasse with a one-day Analysis Working Group meeting on Monday, September 24th. We are working toward finalizing the program for next weeks. A very preliminary draft is already available on the Workshop website and the content for each session is still in construction by the program committee. Delegates wishing to contribute should decide which session they think would include their subject and should contact the appropriate chairperson in some weeks (new circular will be issued to announce final program and chairs). Please note that the program and timetable on the website are not complete but a preliminary indication of the topics and social events are available - the site will be updated on a regular basis as details become finalized, don't hesitate to question us.. -A deadline for registration has been set as 31st August 2007. After this date it should still be possible to register some delegates but hotel accommodations cannot be guaranteed. For Workshop registration, payments will be made in cash directly to the conference center on Tuesday September 25th morning .

-Concerning accommodations, as you'll can see on the web site, we negotiated prices and arrangements with two hotels very convenient and close to the center where the workshop will be held (10 mn walking time maximum). This period of end September in Grasse is still touristic, we urge participants to book early and the deadlines for reservation are the following : -Hotel des Parfums (3 stars , 57/60 Euros/night) : July 31st 2007 (30% for booking and d-5 for final settlement - no refund after d-5, d: expected arrival date) -Hotel Panorama (2 stars, 54/60 Euros/night ): August 31st 2007 ( no payment in advance for booking) The reservation for these hotels have to be done directly to the Hotel in using procedures and forms of our Web Site. Of course we'll be able to have some rooms available after these dates but can be difficult if too many..

-Concerning travel, the International Nice Airport (the second for the traffic in France) has a lot of connections through Europe and world. The ground transfer to Grasse ( 40 km) can be achieved by regular bus directly from the terminal to the center of Grasse and very cheap (2 Euros). Of course hire a car is still possible but not needed for workshop by itself with accommodations in Grasse, taxi is a possibility too, but very expensive for one only. Study of the distribution of the atmospheric water vapour in a tropical area from GPS data (Tahiti island)

The aim of this post-doctoral research is to model, from the GPS data acquired at the Geodesy Observatory of Tahiti, the delays of propagation of GPS signals caused by the dry and wet atmosphere, over the five to seven last years. We will correlate the obtained results with all the available weather data in order to obtain a daily 3D scan of the water vapour over the site of the Observatory. This will permit both physical studies of the atmosphere, and the elaboration of GPS daily correction models valid both in azimuth and elevation for a better determination of the vertical positioning of the Observatory.

Skills required: PhD in Geodesy/Geomatics, Geophysics or Applied Mathematics, good command of a programming language, fluency in French or English.

Duration: 16 months, starting October 2007, at the University of French Polynesia (Punaauia, near Papeete).

2007 Workshop on Charging Issues in Experimental Gravity, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, July 26-27, 2007

This workshop is designed for experimentalists working on all projects in gravity (including LIGO, LISA, Virgo, GP-B, laboratory measurements of G, etc.) to come together and discuss noise from electric charge on test masses. There will be formal prepared talks on the status of major experiments, experimental measurements of electrical properties, methods of charge mitigation, as well as plenty of time for informal discussions, lab tours, and other networking opportunities. The workshop will immediately follow the LSC/Virgo meeting for the convenience of those attending both (note, only LIGO Science Collaboration and Virgo members will be able to attend the LSC/Virgo meeting).

20 June 2007: The subroutine dehanttideinel.f has been updated. It remains under review for some other possible corrections (which effects should be < 0.05 mm).

The dutc subroutine has been corrected (from H. Manche). The effect is < 0.05 mm.

The step2diu subroutine has been corrected (from V. Tesmer). The effect may exceed 0.1 mm.

L'activité « Recherche et Technologie » du CNES s'inscrit dans la préparation du futur et est principalement réalisée :

· dans le cadre de l'Agence Spatiale Européenne à travers la contribution financière du CNES à divers programmes obligatoires (comme le Technology Research Programme) et facultatifs (GSTP, EOEP, ARTES, ...),

· dans le cadre national à travers les activités de R&T menées directement par le CNES et les contrats passés aux industriels (maîtres d'oeuvres, grands industriels, PME, SSII) et organismes de recherche scientifiques et technologiques.

D'autres cadres existent également comme le pôle de compétitivité Aéronautique, Espace et Systèmes Embarqués, les projets financés directement par les Régions pour le soutien, par la recherche, au spatial et les Programmes Cadres de l'Union Européenne (6 ième puis 7 ième PCRD).

Le volet national des activités de R&T est pour sa plus large part couvert par le Programme Pluriannuel de Recherche et Technologie (PPRT).

L'activité conduite à travers le PPRT vise essentiellement à couvrir les besoins de :

· recherche prospective et particulièrement recherche des ruptures techniques possibles (mise en oeuvre en 2006 d'un appel à idées spécifique sur le thème innovation),

· préparation des projets futurs,

· développement de la capacité d'expertise nationale.

Pour 2008 l'appel à idées est limité :

- aux ruptures techniques permettant de répondre aux besoins des futurs Systèmes Orbitaux déclinés selon les objectifs techniques mentionnés précédemment,

- et au domaine des Sciences de l'Univers. Les informations à fournir dans une proposition d'idée sont indiquées en annexe 2.

Vos propositions d'idées devront nous être soumises en ligne au plus tard le 7 septembre 2007. Cette soumission en ligne sera opérationnelle à partir du 13 juillet sur le site internet du CNES dans la rubrique Recherche et Technologie de Sciences et Techniques :
