Date: Thu, 03 Jan 2002 13:20:05 +0100 From: Roy BoothTo: IVS VLBI List Subject: International Masters Course in Radio Astronomy and Space Science Dear Colleague, I am writing to you in order to announce a new International Masters Programme in ADVANCED TECHNIQUES IN RADIO ASTRONOMY AND SPACE SCIENCE to be given at Chalmers University by the staff of the new Centre for Astrophysics and Space Science based on ONSALA SPACE OBSERVATORY, and to ask your help in recruiting students to the Programme which begins in the autumn, 2002. The course is described on our web site The programme (one full year of study followed by a six month project) aims to familiarise students with the basics of Microwave and millimetre-wave systems, Correlation techniques and interferometers and Information- and image processing techniques plus aspects of the scientific themes studied in our group: Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics, Remote Sensing, Space Geodesy, Environmental Measurements from Space. There is no fee in the Swedish university system and it is possible (but competitive) to get financial assistance towards living costs from the Swedish Institute and an organisation called STINT (see the links to General Info on the course web site). If you think this course could be of interest to students from your associated university, I would be grateful if you could make them, and their tutors aware of it. My best wishes for 2002, Roy Booth --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Director | Phone : +46 (0)31 772 5520 (direct) Professor R.S.Booth | Phone : +46 (0)31 772 5525 (secretary) Onsala Space Observatory | Phone : +46 (0)31 772 5500 (exchange) Chalmers University of Technology | Fax : +46 (0)31 772 5590 S-439 92 Onsala | E-mail Sweden | http://www.oso.chalmers.se ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
