As a research institute of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der
Wissenschaften e.V.
we conduct basic research in the field of astronomy, often in
cooperation with foreign institutes. In
Bad Münstereifel – Effelsberg we operate one of the largest radio
telescopes world-wide. For this
radio telescope applications are invited for the position of the group
leader within the electronic
division, which is responsible for maintenance and development of the
receiving systems.
Therefore, we look for a M.S.E.E.
Assignment:
The System-Group is responsible for maintenance and development of
receiving systems and
system components in the frequency range from 1 GHz to 100 GHz at the
radio telescope in
Effelsberg.
The group leader is responsible for the tasks of the System-Group, which
is maintenance,
operation, and development of the radio astronomical receiving systems
and components at
Effelsberg . The technology of the extremely low noise and stable
receivers is preferentially
heterodyne. The input stages are cryogenically cooled to typically
15Kelvin with closed-cycle
refrigerators. A high reliability of the receiving systems is required.
The rapid detection of receiver
problems and an effective trouble shooting is basic for continuous
observations and international
competitive science.
Qualification and Experience:
We expect advanced knowledge in microwave technology and in development
of robust receiving
systems, empathy with the complicated infrastructure of large radio
telescopes, and experience in
development of microwave components and in cryogenic cooling technology.
Cooperation is
essential with other technical and scientific groups. Hence the capacity
for teamwork is required.
The cooperation within the group requires the knowledge of the German
language. If the applicant
is not familiar with the German language special training will be offered.
Duty station: Bad Münstereifel-Effelsberg, Germany
