The research area is that of "Mapping the Underworld", investigating the development of techniques and systems to locate and position underground pipes and cables; the project is a collaborative venture with a number of other universities and departments. The IESSG's contribution will be the investigation of various areas that will augment kinematic GPS. The University of Nottingham is one of the most popular Universities in the UK and is one of the top four UK universities earning research funding from private industry and commerce. The IESSG has an outstanding reputation and is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in research and teaching for positioning, navigation and surveying disciplines.
