Dear Colleague

I would like first to thank those of you who have sent a paper to the
Data Science Journal or encourage someone else to send a paper arising
out of a meeting, seminar or colloquium of CODATA which you have been
organising. If you have not already sent me a paper I would encourage
you to do so.

Encouraging others
Almost all the papers published in the journal have been submitted in
response to invitations from someone. Promising authors or promising
papers are usually identified from a paper read or heard at a conference
or meeting. So I would ask you to watch out for possible papers for the
journal and either you encourage the author to submit a paper or send
the name of the author or paper.

If an author is unsure if a paper is appropriate for the Data Science
Journal or not, then please encourage the author to send me a draft. I
can then advise the author. I have done this several times, sometimes
being positive and sometimes explaining why the paper is not appropriate
and suggesting hoe it might be changed to make it suitable.

Special Sections
The journal has already published in February this year one special
section on Spatial data Usability edited by Monica Wachowicz, a member
of the editorial board, and G.J. Hunter. If you convene or assist with a
seminar, colloquium, study group or journal, please consider editing a
special section on the meeting or writing a paper reviewing what took
place at the meeting.

Remember that the journal can be accessed at
www.datasciencejournal.org, where potential authors can find
information about the journal and how to submit.

Yours sincerely
FJ Smith
